Abstract

1441331 Dyeing fibre blends IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 April 1974 [8 May 1973] 21830/73 Heading D1B Material which comprises a blend of polyester and cellulosic fibres are dyed by applying to the blend by an impregnation including printing process either together or in sequence (1) a disperse dye, (2) a cyclic alkylene carbonate and (3) water followed by fixation of the disperse dye in the fibre blend, preferably the ingredients are applied simultaneously. Blends of cotton and polyester are coloured, fixation being by thermofixation at 120‹ to 230‹C for 15 secs. to 5 mins., using hot air or contact heat or by steaming, preferably washing in a non-ionic surface active agent is employed. Ethylene and propylene carbonates are employed in amounts of 3% to 30% by weight of the dye bath or print paste. Additionally there may be applied along with the other components a polymeric substance containing functional groups capable of reacting with the cellulosic fibre or with a di- or polyfunctional crosslinking agent during the fixation process, or a di- or poly-functional precursor of a resin which resin may be formed from said precursor in a subsequent fixation process with or without reaction with the fibre.
