Abstract

1441257 Pipe joints WEIR PUMPS Ltd 18 Sept 1973 [23 Sept 1972] 44122/72 Heading F2G [Also in Division F1] In a pump of the type including a casing and fluid ducts in the casing for the inflow and discharge of fluid to and from the casing; a support member adapted to fixedly carry a pipe for delivery of fluid to or from at least one of the ducts is carried by a bracket member secured to the casing and adapted for connection to a drive machine, and conduit means connects the support member and the casing for fluid communication between the pipe and duct while permitting the casing to be substantially free of pipe load or load due to differential thermal expansion between the casing and support member, the support and bracket members being out of contact with the pumped fluid. A centrifugal pump comprises a casing 2 of metal, plastics or ceramic connected via a bracket 8 to the driving motor 9. The inlet and discharge pipes 52, 53 are bolted to an extension 37, 51 of the bracket 8, pipe load being sustained by the extension rather than by the pump casing 2. The pump discharges to the pipe 53 via a short pipe 43 which is sealed by O-rings 46 in relation to the pump casing 2 and a ring 45, the ring 45 being in sealing relationship to the flange of the pipe 53. The front cover 50 of the pump casing has an inlet stub 56 which receives fluid from the inlet pipe 52 via a collar 57 and a short flanged pipe 55 supported in a stepped bore 59, a sealing cover 58 being in the right-hand position shown. In a modification, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the portion 51 of the extension is eliminated, and the inlet pipe is disposed parallel to the discharge pipe and connected via the portion 37 and means similar to the means 43, 45 to a suction casing part (4).
