Abstract

1441232 Deodorized organic waste material H E W HANSSON 31 Jan 1974 04628/74 Heading C1B [Also in Division A5] The generation of air pollution in the form of a disagreeable smell from organic matter, is prevented by a method wherein the organic matter and/or its odoriferous substances are brought into contact with a composition which contains, as active components, (a) a cupric salt, (b) nitric acid and/or a nitrate and (c) nitrous acid and/or a nitrite. The composition may comprise an acid compound, which may be nitric acid, nitrous acid or another acid compound (d), in amount to adjust the pH of the organic matter to below 7. Typical components used are cupric nitrate, sulphate or chloride; the sodium or potassium salts of nitric and nitrous acids; and hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulphuric acid or an acid salt thereof, citric acid or acetic acid. The organic matter may be poultry, pig or cattle manure, human excrement, compost manure, digested sludge, hospital waste or slaughter house waste.
