Abstract
1391333 Recovering fats NEW ZEALAND INVENTIONS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY 6 March 1972 [4 March 1971] 10429/72 Heading C5C [Also in Division C3] Fats and proteins are recovered from effluents, e.g. from slaughterhouses, by (a) acidifying to a pH less than 4À0, (b) releasing into the effluent a gas dissolved under pressure, (c) raising the pH to precipitate protein, and (d) harvesting float and precipitate. The chemicals used are chosen to leave no harmful residues, e.g. the acidification may be by the use of sulphuric acid alone or mixed with hydrochloric, nitric or phosphoric acid, the gas may be air, dissolved under pressure in fresh water or in recirculated treated effluent, and the pH may be raised by the use of lime. As described, the float (largely fat) is harvested after step (b), and the precipitate (largely protein) after step (c).
