Abstract

1441093 Smoothing cup handles SERVICE (ENGS) Ltd 23 Oct 1973 [21 Oct 1972] 48607/72 Heading C1J A machine for removing seams from a cup handle H comprises a sponge material 10 having a passageway 12 having a profile shape corresponding to, but narrower than, that of the handle, a pusher member 46 arranged to push the handle into the tight passageway to rub off the seam, and an ejector member 60 arranged to push the handle out of the passageway. The machine illustrated comprises a turntable 6 which carries four boxes 8 holding the sponge material and spaced around its periphery. The turntable is intermittently driven (Fig. 3, not shown) by a chain 24, cog wheel 26 and sprag clutch 18 so that in use a handle is laid on the tapering entry portion of the passageway 12, at a station B by an operator, pushed into the passageway at C, ejected from the passageway at D, and removed from the sponge at A.
