Abstract
1440808 Mounting vehicle headlamps CIBIE PROJECTEURS 16 July 1973 [20 July 1972 13 April 1973] 33799/73 Heading F4R A motor vehicle headlight assembly comprises a housing C, a headlight unit B, e.g. of the sealed beam type, adjustably mounted in the housing by means of two bearing and adjustment assemblies A, G which support the headlight B for rocking about an axis passing through both assemblies A, G, each assembly A, G comprising portions which are respectively mounted on the headlight B and on the housing C and which are engageable with one another during assembly simply by a movement of the headlight B relative to the housing in a direction parallel to the headlight axis and each assembly A, G supporting and being capable of adjusting in a direction parallel to the headlight axis, with respect to the housing, its adjacent part of the headlight B, there also being provided at least one resilient element R exerting a restoring force on the headlight B when it is displaced about its rocking axis. The two assemblies, e.g. each comprising bearings A abutting with guides G, may be disposed on the headlight major horizontal diameter, with the spring restoring device R disposed at one end of the headlight vertical diameter and a positive connection in the form of a catch disposed at the other end. Alternatively, as shown, the bearings A and guides G are disposed symmetrically on a horizontal chord of the unit B with the resilient element R including spring 106 disposed at one end of the vertical diameter. Each guide G comprises a slideway 10, and an adjusting screw 13 having one end adjustably coupled via a nut 12 in the housing C to the slideway 10 and the other end 13a of which forms an abutment element for bearing A. A hook end 121a of a lug 121 extending from the unit B engages one arm 124 of a V-shaped hairpin spring 123, the other arm 125 of which bears on the housing C to provide the positive retention of the unit B in the housing C. The resilient connection R is adjustable and comprises a rod 101 attached to the unit B at one end with an oblong head 105 at the other end which extends through a similarly shaped aperture 113 in lever 110 pivoted at 111 to housing 112. A hook 114 at the end of lever 110 engages an element 120 at one end of an adjustment unit RH. The arrangement enables the headlight B to be removed without moving the adjusting members. In alternative embodithe adjusting screw associated with the bearings and guide is adjustably mounted in the bearing and abuts the guide Figs. 5, 6 and 7 (not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 10 (not shown) an end of the adjusting screw forms a snap fit in a recess of a piston like plate attached to the unit B and which is received in the slideway. In the embodiment of Figs. 17, 18 and 19 (not shown), the unit B is pivotable about the horizontal axis through the bearing by means of a journal which can rotate in a bearing which in turn is slidable in the respective slideway.
