Abstract

1440571 Separating nested articles RAY WARNER & SON (ENGS) Ltd 23 Aug 1973 [24 May 1972] 24354/72 Heading B8S Nested hollow metal tubes 3, e.g. toothpaste tubes, are dispensed singularly by a series of fingers 41 movable longitudinally of the nested stack of tubes to engage the back edge of the leading tube 31, to move the stack forwardly, the leading tube being pushed through a ring of gripping segments 22 whereafter the segments 22 grip the second leading tube as the first leading tube is separated therefrom with further movement of the fingers 41. The ring of segments 22 is biased radially inwardly by an encircling garter spring 23 and is provided with gaps 24 allowing passage therethrough of the fingers 41. The latter are pivotally located on a slide 42 movable within the bore of a barrel 1, and have their leading ends biassed radially inwardly by a garter spring 45. A stop 47 on the slide 42 runs in a slot 11 in the barrel 1 to rotatably control and longitudinally limit, movement of the slide 1. The ring of segments 22 are located by a nut 10 for the barrel 1, and by a peg 25. In a modification, the feeding fingers are held stationary whilst the barrel and segment assembly are reciprocated.
