Abstract

144,037. Taylor, W. April 26, 1919. Indicating. - Movementmagnifying mechanism for indicating-instruments comprises a roller having parts of different diameters, the roller being pressed on to a track along which it rolls without sliding, means tending to turn the roller, flexible bands attached to- and passedoppositely around the roller parts, the other ends being respectively fixed and connected to the part the movement of which is to be magnified, and a long needle attached to the spindle of the roller. The invention as described and illustrated is applied to a feeler gauge. The rod f, which is moved against the influence of a surrounding spring by contact of its end with the work, is contained in a casing a. The other end of the rod has a head u the movement of which to the right is limited by a stop x*. The head is secured to the forked end of a strap p passing over, and attached to, the large diameter of the roller, the other end of the strap being secured to a spring s. Straps u fixed to the roller are passed around oppositely to the strap p and over the smaller diameter of the roller, and are fixed at the ends at v. The straps are fixed to the roller by attachment to a saddle r. The roller is guided on an inclined track forming part of the frame a. The roller is made in three parts secured together by a bolt, the centre and large part being eccentric to the others tc admit of adjustment, so that each unit of the scale may be correct in spite of variations, for instance, in the diameters of the roller. The end of the securing-bolt carries an arm y attached to a long pointer z moving over a scale. The zero of the instrument may be adjusted by slacking the bolt and moving the pointer relatively to the roller.
