Abstract
1440334 Full-face disc brakes; spring/ electric control SIEMENS AG 22 Nov 1973 [22 Nov 1972] 54353/73 Heading F2E A spring-applied friction brake 5, 4, 7, 6 has electromagnetic releasing apparatus comprising an armature 4 and an electromagnet 1, 2, the electromagnet including a magnetic core 1 having a pull-up winding 1<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, to be fed with A.C. to energize the electromagnet for brake release, and a holding winding which is inductively coupled to the pull-up winding and short-circuited by a rectifier. Preferably the two windings are incorporated at 2, Fig. 4. Preferably the invention is associated with an electric motor, Fig. 4, whose windings are shown on the left of Fig. 3. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the pull-up winding is in series with one of the motor windings, while in Fig. 1 (not shown) the pull-up winding is similarly connected and the holding winding has no power source but is simply shunted by a single rectifier. The rectifier may be cooled by direct contact with the core. The brake as a whole is cooled by a fin forming part of the brake disc 6. In Fig. 5 (not shown) which is a modification of Fig. 4, a rotary brake disc having brake linings on both faces and incorporating a fan is engaged between the axially-movable armature disc and a fixed braking surface.
