Abstract

1440281 Photo-sensitive diazide layer transfer material HOECHST AG 23 Jan 1974 03218/74 Heading G2C A polyester film carrier pre-treated with an aqueous solution containing a halogenated saturated fatty acid, a wetting agent and a water-soluble polymer compatible in the solution with the fatty acid and then dried bears on the treated surface a light-sensitive layer containing an alkali-soluble phenolic resin, an ester or amide of an o-naphthoquinone-diazide-sulphonic acid and an acrylic resin. The fatty acid may be trichloro-acetic acid, 2, 2, 3- trichloropropionic acid or trifluoro-acetic acid. The wetting agent may be an anionic or non-ionic wetting agent. The water-soluble polymer may be polyvinyl alcohol, partially saponified polyvinyl acetate, a cellulose ether e.g. hydroxyethyl cellulose or carboxymethyl cellulose; or polyacrylamide. The aqueous solution may contain a cross-linking agent e.g. dimethylol urea (see Example 10). The phenolic resin may be cresol-formaldehyde novolac. The diazide may be the p-cumylphenyl ester of 1,2-naphthoquinone-2-diazide-4-sulphonic acid, an ester mixture of 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzophenone and 1,2-naphthoquinone-2-diazide-5-sulphonic acid, or 1,2-naphthoquinone-2-diazide-5-sulphonic acid n-bulylamide (Example 7). The acrylic resin may be polyethyl acrylate or polybutyl methacrylate. The light-sensitive layer may also contain a polyvinyl ether, a polyglycol, a copolymer with units which contain acid groups e.g. vinyl acetate crotonic acid copolymer (Examples 2 and 4-8) or n-hexyl methacrylate-methyl methacrylate-methacrylic acid copolymer (Example 8), or a pigment (Examples 1, 3-6 and 8). The surface of the lightsensitive layer remote from the film carrier may be covered with a removable covering sheet (Examples 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7). The material may be used to produce a screen printing stencil, printed circuit board (Examples 2, 6), integrated circuit, an intaglio or relief image printing plate or colour proof (Examples, 1, 5).
