Abstract

1440266 Sandwish GENERAL FOODS CORP 22 Oct 1973 49080/73 Heading A2B A process for sealing two or more pieces of foodstuff together, in particular in the preparation of frozen sandwiches which are thereafter to be toasted, comprises applying an edible carbohydrate to the areas of the foodstuff to be sealed in the presence of moisture and then subjecting these areas to a high-frequency alternating electric field for a time sufficient to combine the carbohydrates with the moisture to form the seal. Fig. 1 shows an embodiment wherein starch is applied to the edge of a bread slice 5, either as a paste with water or dry, in which case the moisture content of the bread provides the necessary water, a filling 6 and a further slice of bread are placed in position and top platen 1 is pressed down on the assembly, and the radio frequency generator 3 is activated.
