Abstract

1439968 Clamps AEROQUIP AG 3 Aug 1973 [11 Sept 1972] 37041/73 Heading E2B Overtightening of a pipe-flange clamp is prevented by transmitting the tightening force 42, 43, Fig. 1, through links 19, 20 which first abut at 44, Fig. 4, to transmit reduced forces 45, 46, and then close completely at surfaces 39, 41 to provide limiting forces 47, 48 tangential to the clamp arms, Fig. 5. Thereafter if the nut 27 is tightened further, the bolt 28 breaks at neck 35, leaving the clamp retained loosely in position by loops 37 which entrain the outer ends of the bolt-end pivot 38.
