Abstract

1439836 Yarn tensioner F M N SCHUSTER & CO 13 July 1973 [14 July 1972] 33416/ 73 Heading DID In a thread tensioner a loop of running yarn is formed by an air jet in a duct, and the movement of the loop apex due to tension changes is sensed by two contactless sensors spaced along the duct to control the speed of thread delivery or take-up mechanisms. An air jet in duct 20 creates a thread loop the position of whose apex 27 is sensed by photoelectric sensors 28, 29, to control the speed of wind-up motor 16. As the apex oscillates between positions which lie outside the sensors, the response of the sensors to the presence of thread switches on and off the output of circuit to produce a square-course voltage. If thread tension alters, the influence of the apex on both sensors is no longer the same and the change in the resulting square wave voltage is used to adjust the speed of motor 16. Further sensors 30, 31 may be used. The velocity of the overflow may be adjusted. The sensors may be mounted on a pivoted, oscillating arm (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown).
