Abstract
1439754 Jet propulsion engines DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 11 Sept 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 45050/72 Heading F1J A jet thruster unit for use in attitude control of a space vehicle includes a hot gas unit 1, e.g. a heat exchanger 19, 20 as shown, for producing hot gas exhausting from the jet nozzle 5, and a spherical heat reflector 2 surrounding the unit 1 to minimize heat loss therefrom. A spherical diffuser is preferably provided between the unit 1 and reflector 2. As shown, ammonia is fed via a valve 22, (controlled by onboard computer or by radio signals), in pulses via tube 3 to electrical heat exchanger 19, 20 mounted by an insulated diaphragm 7 in a shell 17. The unit may contain a catalyst for catalytic decomposition of hydrazine, which may alternatively be decomposed by an electric heater. Specific materials for the heat exchanger and reflector are given.
