Abstract

1439586 Resilient mountings; bearings DUNLOP Ltd 13 Sept 1973 [20 Sept 1972 5 May 1973] 43528/72 and 21521/73 Headings F2S and F2A A resilient mounting comprises an outer rigid member 10 formed with an aperture in which is situated an inner rigid member 18; a resilient first annular element 15 extending between the rigid members 10, 18; and a second annular element 19 of resilient material being located between the rigid members 10, 18, the second annular element 19 being provided with a substantially inextensible reinforcement (not shown) which compresses an interlayer of resilient material between the reinforcement and one of the members 18 so that the second element 19 is secured to that rigid member by the action of compression forces in the interlayer of resilient material, the first annular element 15 being formed of a material having a stiffness different from that of the material of the second element 19. Both resilient elements 15, 19, may be of elastomeric material, e.g. rubber or polyurethane foam, or the second element 19 may be of nylon, possibly lubricated with P.T.F.E., MoS 2 or castor oil. The second element 19 may have an outside surface with protrusions as in Fig. 3 (not shown). Fig. 5 (not shown) illustrates an embodiment where the two annular elements are connected by a diaphragm 40, forming a chamber 43 which can be filled with a lubricant. The annular elements 15, 19, Fig. 1, may be initially radially asymmetrical so as to provide symmetry under gravity load.
