Abstract
1439454 Automatic control of voltage and current ELECTRO AUTOMAT Ltd 7 June 1973 [17 March 1972] 12513/72 Heading G3R A stabilized D.C. power supply has output current controlled by a switch according to a comparison of actual current and current reference signals, and if the supply output voltage is above a pre-set value the current reference is modified by the comparison of the output voltage with a further reference. As shown, a charger for battery 32 uses an unstabilized D.C. source 1 and chopping switch 2 e.g. a transistor, which is controlled by amplifier 40 that compares a measured current, from amplifier 12 using the voltage across a sampling resistor 21, with a current reference 50, to provide current regulation. If, for example, the measured current exceeds reference 50, switch 2 is opened and current from battery 32 flows through sampling resistor 21, choke 5 and commutating diode 4. The output voltage, as sensed by divider 29, 30 is compared by amplifier 24 with a voltage reference 27 so that, if the output voltage exceeds the pre-set value, diode 80 conducts to modify the current reference provide output voltage regulation with variable current.
