Abstract

1,019,325. Automatic voltage control. SUPERIOR ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 17, 1964 [March 12, 1963], No. 2121/64. Heading G3R. An automatic A.C. voltage regulator includes an autotransformer 11 having input terminals 14, 15 for the unstabilized supply, terminals 14, 16 for the stabilized output voltage, a movable slider 13 connected to terminal 16, and a reversible motor 17 which actuates slider 13 and which runs in a direction to increase.output voltage when a winding 20 is energized and in a direction to decrease output voltage when a winding 19 is energized. A direct voltage representative of the output voltage is derived from a transformer 74 and a rectifier 77, and is compared with an adjustable reference voltage derived from a circuit 73 which includes a Zener diode 83 and a potentiometer 86, depending on whether the output voltage is below or above the desired value, the potentials on lines 60 and 61 resulting from the comparison cause either s.c.r. 35 or s.c.r.36 to fire and energize relay coil 29 or 28, thus closing normally open contacts 27 or 24, whereby windings 20 or 19 are energized so that the motor 17 moves the slider 13 in a sense to maintain a constant output voltage. The bias supply for the s.c.r.'s 35 and 36 is derived from a circuit 46. Adjustment of potentiometer 86, which may be remotely positioned, enables the regulator to provide an output voltage selected from a range extending from a minimum of zero to a maximum of the input voltage.
