1439166 Touch operated switches INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 31 July 1973 [31 July 1972] 36286/73 Heading G1N [ Also in Divisions H 1 and H3] In an electrical apparatus assembly comprising a case 2 and 12 containing electrical switching or tuning equipment including an indicating faceplate 1, control buttons and/or finger-touchcontact surfaces 4a and 4d, and a printed circuit board 7a, the case consists of a plastics case cover 2 and a separate case bottom 12, the parts are demountably clipped together so that the indicator plate 1 is clipped on to the case cover 2, holders 4b for the control buttons and/or receptacles for the .finger-touch contact surfaces 4c are clipped into apertures 4a in the case cover 2 and the printed circuit board 7a is clipped at 7 on to edges of the case cover 2. Also the case bottom 12 consists of a shield plate which encloses the printed circuit board 7a to provide shielding and clasps the clipped-up assembly from below and is clamped resiliently to the case cover 2, such as by the resilience of the slit sides of the case bottom 12. A layer 3 of conductive laquer serves as a shield for potentiometers in the tuning unit shown. The case cover 2 may be of conducting plastics material. An Al shield plate 12 clips on to the plastics cover 2. The tuning unit uses electronic switching and when a respective frequency band is switched on an indicating light 10 illuminates a respective coloured transparent oval opening 1b and window 1a so that the channel or frequency setting marked on the faceplate 1 can be read against a pointer 11 of the associated potentiometer. The cover 2 is positioned on the printed circuit board 7a by pins 8 which engage in holes 9 and the cover 2 is fastened to the printed circuit board 7a by latches or catches 7 which resiliently engage below the circuit board 7a. The touch contact electrodes 4c and 4d are mounted in a contact receptacle 4b supported in an opening 4a in the cover 2 and on the printed circuit board 7a respectively. The outer electrode 4c is connected with the printed circuit board 7a by a contact spring 5. The assembly can be used for tuning TV and radio sets and can be provided with push buttons for programming instead of the touch contacts.
