Abstract
1438702 Making bladed rotors GARRETT CORP 16 Nov 1973 [20 Nov 1972] 53340/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division F1] A gas turbine motor is formed by stacking and bonding together a number of metal laminations 19, at least one of which has a radial slot (20), Fig. 5 (not shown), extending from a central base 15, and an adjacent lamination having a slot (21) inclined with respect to slot (20) but adapted to communicate therewith to define a cooling passage 17 interconnecting the passage 15 and the blade surface. The slots may be formed by etching. The laminations are then connected by diffusion bonding, and finish machined by electrical discharge machining. Etching fluid is passed through the cooling passages 17 after bonding, to remove sharp edges and obstructions.
