Abstract

1438689 Matric displays SONY CORP 2 Aug 1973 [10 Aug 1972] 36776/73 Heading G5C An alpha numeric display device comprises a plurality of L.E.D. arrays, a conductive pattern on a transparent non-conductive plate 6 providing individual leads for one electrode of each diode and a common lead for the other electrode of all the diodes of each array and a plurality of leads running along the device above the pattern interconnecting the one electrode of corresponding diodes in each array via the individual leads. Each array comprises seven segments of a figure of eight, a decimal point and a dash in space 29. The conductive pattern comprises segments 11, . . . 20, the last providing the common lead; each of these segments includes a tab 11<SP>1</SP> . . . 20<SP>1</SP>. The pattern is covered by a resin layer 30 with apertures for the L.E.D.s and over each tab. The L.E.D.s 1 are inserted in the apertures and the spaces beneath the L.E.D.s are filled with photo sensitive resin 36 to secure them and to prevent conductive resin subsequently entering these spaces. The resin 36 is coated over the assembly and drawn into the spacers by lowering the air pressure. The resin is illuminated through a mask over the plate 6 to harden the resin only under the diodes. Further resin layers 3 to 40 are added. Grooves are formed in these layers extending over the tabs and conducting strips are inserted therein of conductive layer 41 is added to interconnect the diode electrodes and strips to the conductive pattern tabs. A glass plate 43 with a reflecting surface 44 is finally added. Specification 1,438,690 is referred to.
