Abstract

1438432 Making screened coaxial cable KABEL - UND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 23 July 1974 [8 Sept 1973] 32526/74 Heading B3A [Also in Division H1] A method of making a screened coaxial line formed of inner and outer conductors 1, 5, kept in coaxial relationship by spacing means 2, and an iron sheath 9 surrounding the outer conductor 5, comprises forming the outer conductor 5 from metal strip 4 about the inner conductor 1 and spacing means 2, welding the abutting edges of the strip 4, forming the sheath 9 from an iron band 11 about the conductor 5, welding the abutting edges of the band 11 and corrugating the conductor 5 and sheath 9. The strip 4 is of copper and is longitudinally seam welded by a welding device 7, while the band 11 is similarly welded by a device 13. If necessary the sheath is drawn down on to the outer conductor by a drawing device 18 and it may be bonded to it by an adhesive. The conductor 5 may also be bonded to the spacing means 2 for longitudinal water-tightness. When adhesive bonds are used the corrguations should preferably be annular.
