Abstract
1438366 Excavator teeth CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 21 Aug 1973 39644/73 Heading E1F A replaceable, tapered tip 31 for an earth digging tooth has an insert 37 of a material harder than the material of the tip bonded to the tip in a cavity 38 of a shape complementary to the insert and located in the top surface of the tip back from the leading edge 36 of the tip, and the front and back surfaces 39, 41 of the insert and the cavity have rounded profiles. The tip may have arcuate grooves 42, 43 formed in its top and bottom surfaces as in the referred to Specification 1349447 to establish in the zone of the grooves a determinable failure zone for the tip.
