Abstract

1438244 Pressure sealing sliding-claspfasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 6 Feb 1974 [6 Feb 1973] 05525/74 Heading E2S A pressure sealing slide fastener 10 comprises two opposed stringer tapes 11, 12 made e.g. of a fluid-tight elastic material such as rubber, and along respective surfaces and adjacent edges of which are interlocking fastener elements 13, 13 the marginal edge portion 11b, 12b of each tape being arranged for movement free of its fastener elements and extending laterally beyond the longitudinal centre axis A-A of the fastener elements. Each individual fastener element 13, 13 has an engaging portion 13a and a sloping portion 13c which extends from a flat mounting portion 13b, each tape 11, 12 having a flat web 11a, 12a and longitudinal edge portions 11b, 12b which are directed upwardly along, but free from, the sloping element portions 13c for free relative movement thereto so that they can abut intimately when the elements are closed by a slider 14. A clearance gap 16, between the juxtaposed edge portions 11b, 12b, Fig. 2, and the apex of the inclined surfaces 13c, allows the merged marginal edge portions 11b, 12b to move flexibly in response to changing external pressure. Flexing of the edge portions 11b, 12b is assisted by grooves 15, 15, the portions 11b, 12b preferably being of thinner section than the web portions 11a, 12a.
