Abstract
1438074 Light guides TELEPHONE CABLES Ltd 17 Jan 1975 [17 Jan 1974] 02175/74 Heading G2J An optical fibre cable comprises a core consisting of a bundle of optical glass fibres, a sleeve of textile fibres or plastic material fitting loosely round the bundle, a reinforcing tube surrounding and in contact with the tube, and an outer sheath of flexible material, e.g. polythene. The reinforcing tube must be of a material which withstands tensile and bending strains, and may be a composite comprising resin - impregnated fibres of glass, vitreous silica or carbon, or resin reinforced with wires of metal or synthetic polymer. Alternatively, the tube may be made of thin steel and may have a longitudinal slit. The sleeve may be of woven or braided threads or of thermoplastic sheet material, and the optical fibres may be solid or tubular and may be coated with a synthetic plastic material, e.g. polyurethane.
