Abstract

1438009 Boots &c ONITSUKA CO Ltd 23 Aug 1973 [1 March 1973 26 March 1973 8 May 1973] 39990/73 Heading A3B A sole 10A for a sports shoe, particularly for use on plastics tracks, has a plurality of recesses on the lower surface of the sole, each of the recesses having a rounded inner wall surface and a plurality of projections extending downwardly between the recesses. In a first embodiment (Figs. 5, 9) the recesses 12 are circular in shape and have a hemispherical inner wall surface 14, the sole also being provided with spikes 16. Each spike 16 (Fig. 9) includes a thin penetrating cylindrical portion 16 A1 , a thicker cylindrical portion 16 A2 and is threaded into an insert 17 embedded in the sole. In a second embodiment (Fig. 12) the recesses 112 are elliptical in shape and the tread surface 13 of the sole is provided with small cylindrical projections 21 and small pointed projections 22. In a third embodiment (Fig. 14) the recesses 212 are hexagonal and rhombic in shape and the tread surface 13 of the sole is provided with spikes 16, small cylindrical projections 21 and sawtoothed projections 122 located between the recesses 212. In a fourth embodiment (not shown) the recesses are elongated and extend along the flexion lines of the bone structure of the foot, the sole also being provided with spikes 16 and projections 21.
