Abstract

1437972 Disseminating volatile materials DYNAMICS CORP OF AMERICA 29 May 1973 [19 June 1972] 25456/73 Heading ASG A device for disseminating a vapour, e.g. to perfume, freshen or deodorize the air in a room, comprises a housing of two parts, the upper part 12 containing an electric drive motor and a lower part 16 which may serve as a reservoir for liquid 22 to be disseminated Alternatively, liquid may be applied manually via the feed pipe 26. Between the two parts of the housing, in a compartment having openings in its circumferential wall, is a disc 20 of a porous compressible material, e.g. a plastics material foam, the mounting of which is adjustable to apply a compressing supporting pressure to part of the disc and which also comprises means for conveying liquid from the reservoir to the disc. In the embodiment shown, a needle valve 46, adjustable by the same means as that which applies the compression to the disc, allows liquid to enter the hollow hub of the disc and, when the disc is rotating, to travel up the inside walls thereof by centrifugal force assisted by helical grooves, and thence to the disc, through which it passes to the edge under centrifugal forces and evaporates. Preferably, the device is arranged so that heat produced by the motor can assist in volatilizing the liquid.
