Abstract

1437958 Rear view mirrors WINGARD Ltd 25 April 1974 [27 April 1973] 20059/73 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] An external rear-view vehicle mirror comprises a bracket 1 adapted to be secured to a vehicle body and including two spaced parallel hemispherical walls 2 and 3 which are resiliently biased against movement by their inherent resiliency, and an arm 8 carrying a mirror head and angularly adjustable between the walls 2 and 3 about a fixed pivot bolt 7 in the bracket, with a detent 11 to normally locate the arm in a set position. The arm 8 is normally received in a V-shaped groove 17 of the detent 11 but if it receives an impact, the arm can ride over the edges of the V-shape by resiliently deflecting the walls 2 and 3 which are of spring steel. The detent 11 is rotatable about the pivot bolt 7 and lockable in the chosen set position by clamping means 14, 15, 16 extending through an arcuate adjustment slot 9 in the wall 3. Alternatively, the detent may be non-adjustably formed integrally with the wall 3. Such an integral detent is provided in a bracket formed by a plastics moulding, Fig. 9 (not shown), in which the resilient bias against movement is given by a U-shaped spring clip (34) fitting over the bracket.
