Abstract

1287746 Eyeshield wiper M TRZEBINSKI 6 Jan 1970 [19 Dec 1968] 60307/68 Heading A4F [Also in Division A3] An eyeshield 7, provided with at least one wiper element 15 arranged to be moved over the exterior surface of the eyeshield to clean it as required, is carried by pivot means mounted or mountable on a crash helmet 1 and adapted to allow the eyeshield to be moved to a rest position out of the path of vision of the wearer of the helmet in use, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown). As described wiper element 15 is resiliently attached to arms 18 pivoted on lugs 6 dependent from head band 4 so that when strings 22 are pulled eyeshield 7 is wiped, springs 21 return the element 15 to the upper position shown. The wiper element comprises a flat metal strip 16 surrounded by a felt covered rubber tube 17, the ends of the strip being slidingly engaged in channels in arms 18. Springs 20 maintain the wiper element in contact with the surface of the eyeshield. Alternatively the wiper element may be a resilient plastics (nylon) strip held in a U-shaped channel to fit the curve of the eyeshield. Alternatively movement of the wiper may be by means of electric motor, solenoid or electromagnet. The eyeshield is carried by support bracket 9 pivoted to depending lugs 6 at the same position as the arms 18. Recesses 10 are provided in bracket 9 to engage with spring detent 11 to hold the eyeshield in any of three positions.
