Abstract

Mixing fluids by commingling currents; continuousdischarge apparatus with stationary containers.-In mixing gases with liquids or intermixing two or more liquids, the fluids are caused to drive a turbine which performs no external work. The velocity of the turbine is kept constant, independently of the pressure of the fluids, by means of an electric motor, a transmission gearing, or the like coupled to the turbine shaft. As shown, liquid and gas are supplied to nozzles 3, 4 by pipes 8, 9 respectively and impinge on the blade 7 of a turbine-wheel 5 which is coupled by a shaft 2 to an electro motor 1. A second wheel 6 with blades 7' may be fixed to, or carried loosely on, the shaft 2 below the wheel 5. The mixture is deposited at the bottom of the turbine drum 10 and may be withdrawn at 11; or it may be led back again into the turbine by a pipe 12. The device may be arranged vertically or horizontally, and the admission may be radial or axial. The method of mixing is specially suitable for the manufacture of carbonic acid and other gas-water baths, for making mineral waters, and for many uses in chemical industry.
