Abstract

Device for mixing gas into a liq. which may be still or in motion, so as to dissolve the gas consists of a drive, motor, a wind box, a gas inlet pipe and an agitator element. The latter consists of a radial diffusion turbine coupled to a stirrer boss, both of which are immersed in the liq. The turbine can be coupled to the stirrer by screws, welding or similar methods. They can be made as a single unit. The blades of the turbine are in parallelogram form. The unit is mounted on a carrier. The gas may be supplied from a compressor. Esp. for aeration of effluent streams to dissolve O2 and oxidise impurities or provide O2 for aerobic bacterial growth. The unit agitates the liq. and gives an O2 utilisation of 8-12% defined as O2 dissolved/O2 injected c.f. 5-6% is similar devices, which is comparable to that achieved with a compressor. Even better results are obtd. when it is combined with a compressor.
