Abstract

1437518 A closure for a spout RIEKE CORP 4 Dec 1973 [1 Aug 1973] 56178/73 Heading B8T A closure member for a container with a wall 11 having a flange 12 constituting an opening for accommodating a spout 21 movable outward of the opening for discharging contents, comprises a central portion 13 having engageable means 26 for engaging the spout 21, a rim portion 16 and an intermediate portion 14, the intermediate portion 14 being connected to the central portion 13 by a first frangible line 28 and to the rim portion by a second frangible line 29, there being a third frangible line 36 extending between the first and the second frangible lines, and a tab 32 provided on the intermediate portion to facilitate removal of the closure member. A spout support 17 comprises a rim portion which, together with the rim portion 16 of the closure member, is clamped around the flange 12 by a ring 18, an annular sealing bead 49 and internal threads 19. A pull ring 33 is connected to the closure member via a connector 34 and the tab 32. The spout 21 also comprises an annular bead 23 to prevent it from falling down inside the container. When the ring 33 is pulled the connector 34 is broken and the intermediate portion starts to break out from an end 38 around the circumference of the central portion 13. The intermediate portion 14 completely separates from the rim portion 16 along frangible lines 29 and from the central portion 13 up to a termination point 37 whereby, the intermediate portion 14 is separated to allow the removal of the portion 13 from the spout 21. The spout can be screw-threadedly engaged with the spout support 17 to enable pouring without leakage, Fig. 6 (not shown). After the removal of the portion 13 the ring 33 can be snugly fitted to the spout 21, Fig. 7 (not shown), thereby serving to store the cap (portion 13) during pouring of contents from the spout 21.
