Abstract

1437512 Rear view mirror assemblies WINGARD Ltd 8 Nov 1974 [10 Nov 1973] 52290/73 Heading B7J A rear view mirror assembly for a road vehicle comprises a mirror 1 held in an elongate backing member 2 of moulded plastics material, a rod 5 fixed to the member 2 to lie parallel to the plane of the mirror and to the longitudinal axis of the member 2, and a housing 8, adapted to be fixed to the vehicle, in which the assembly of the mirror, backing member and rod is mounted such that by manipulation of a portion of the rod which projects out of the housing the assembly can be rotated about the rod axis and also rocked about one end of the assembly, thereby to adjust the setting of the mirror 1. In the illustrated embodiment a flexible peg 10 at one end of the member 2 journalled in a recess at the adjacent end of the housing provides for the above mentioned rotational and rocking movements. The rod 5 is of D- section and has one end located in a blind bore in a rib 4 on the backing member 2 and emerges at its other end through a slot 11 in the housing and a hollow projection 9 of the housing serving for mounting the housing on a vehicle. A spring 12, bearing against the rib 4 and against a washer 13 keyed to the rod and abutting a rubber pad 14 engaging around the slot 11, maintains the peg 10 in its recess.
