Abstract

1437504 Cutting tools; multiple-tool holders; broaches STAVELEY MACHINE TOOLS Ltd 29 Nov 1974 [30 Nov 1973] 55682/73 Headings B3T B3B and B3L A tool holding assembly comprises a tool support for carrying a plurality of cutting tools having a shank portion and cutting insert secured thereto, the shank portions being secured by wedge devices in sockets in the tool support and which permit respective adjustments and setting of the individual cutting tools for the performance of a predetermined cutting operation. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 4. The tool support 15 is provided with rows of staggered sockets 17 which are inclined in the longitudinal direction to the surface of the support. The cutting tools 29 are adjustably secured in the sockets by screw actuated wedge units 23, 24 and 28 and screw operated pins 32 which locate in a notch 33 in the tool shank. The tools may be collectively set up to machine a contour such as that on a workpiece 12 shown in Fig. 1. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the tool shanks 105, 106 and 107 are secured in a channel 104, are transversely separated by spacer T-pieces 112, 113 and are adjusted in relation to the base of the channel by spacer blocks 114, 115, 116. Clamping blocks 102 are located against the end of wall of the channel 110 and one of the two shanks 107 whereby all the tools are clamped in the channel. The clamping blocks 102, two of which are shown in Fig. 6 are identical in form as shown in Fig. 8 and include opposed conical wedge members 125, 126 located in co-operating bores 130 in the block 122 and which are actuated by screw device 137, 138, 140.
