Abstract

1436996 Latches A TACK and F GABEL 11 Sept 1974 [12 Sept 1973] 39571/74 Heading E2A A motor vehicle door latch comprises mountable on the inside of a door a housing A, Fig. 1 which supports latch actuating levers 16, 17 for activating the latch from inside and outside of the door, a keeper mountable on the door pillar and a latch housing B which can be mounted on an edge of the door, the latch housing mounting a latch 24 Fig. 2 engageable with the keeper the latch housing having a guideway 14 and therein buffer supports for the keeper, the latch being a pivotally -mounted fork spring loaded in the direction of release and pivotably mounted in the latch housing and spring loaded in the direction of engagement with the latch a hooked detent 26 which is engageable with the latch in partly latching and fully latching positions behind one of its limbs the detent having a pin 31 projecting in the housing A to release the detent from the latch, the keeper having a U shaped frame for engaging the forked latch, the latch housing comprises a support member which on both sides of the guideway has buffers extending along the length of the guideway and ejecting means for the keeper. The latch 24 and the detent 26 are mounted on bushes 21 and 22 in the housing B, the bushes may be hollow for fastening screws. The limbs of the latch or the detent may have teeth. The detent has the pins 31 projecting into the housing 4 for engagement by either release lever 16, 17. Alternatively, the detent is welded to a cranked member pivotable on the detent pivot and having one or more drive pins projecting therefrom. The guideway 14, Fig 23, may comprise a resilient component having an end buffer 52 for ejection of the latch when released, a resilient tongue 48 projecting into the guideway to compensate for wear and prevent rattle, the tongue being spring urged by a resilient member 50. A part 47 passed round a bush 28, Fig. 4 of the latch housing. The keeper may comprise a base plate with a yoke 13 Fig. 19, and end legs 38 engaging behind the latch limbs. The yoke may comprise two angled members which are secured together, the centre parts of the yoke being conversely curved to provide a resilient abutment for the latch.
