The preparation of starting materials for the first process and 5,8-dihydro-1-methoxy-5,8- methanonaphthalene and its 4-acetyl and 4-(1- tosylhydrazonoethyl) derivatives, 5,8 - dihydro- 4 - methoxyimino - 1 - oxo - 5,8 - methanonaphthalene, 4 - acetamido - 1 - acetoxy - 5,8- dihydro - 5,8 - methanonaphthalene, 4 - amino- 5,8 - dihydro - 1 - hydroxy - 5,8 - methanonaphthalene and its methoxymethyl ether and 5,8 - dihydro - 4 - fluoro, 4 - methylthio-, 4- methylsulphinyl- and 4-methylsulphonyl-5,8 methanonaphthalene-1-methoxymethyl ether is described. The above compounds I are cardiovascular agents, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in assocation with a carrier.
