Abstract

1436575 Swimming pools J FRIEDLAND and P HABIB 22 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 24491/73 Heading A4N [Also in Division B2] A swimming pool is located in a pit formed in the soil and comprises a side wall 3 and bottom wall 4, adjacent the soil 2 of the pit and covered with a lining 5 formed by a semi-rigid sealing compound, the wall 3 and the bottom wall 4 being formed from a cellular plastics material having a modulas of elasticity within the range of 50 to 200 daN/cm<SP>2</SP>. The maximum thickness e of the wall in centimetres is given as 1/4 2500s/E, where E is the modulus of elasticity and s is the ultimate tensile strength of the wall. Anchoring rods (10), Fig. 3 (not shown), may be embedded in the wall 3 and driven into the soil 2. The plastics material may be a polyurethane, polythene or polystyrene foam, having a density in the range 0.03 to 0.15 g/cm<SP>3</SP>, and the lining 5 may be formed from plastics material such as a polyester resin. The side wall 3 is secured to rigid supports 6 placed in the ground at the edge 7 of the tank. A curbstone 8 covers the post 6 as well as the upper end of the wall 3. A pavement 9 placed over the curbstone and over the upper end of lining 5 helps to anchor the lining. The lining 5 may comprise a sealing compound and a finishing coat.
