Abstract

1435386 Nitriles LABORATORIOS MADE SA 26 July 1973 35688/73 Heading C2C Novel compounds of the formula wherein R is a C 1-4 alkyl group and B is a -CH 2 OH, -CH 2 OR<SP>1</SP>, -COHH 2 or -COOR<SP>11</SP> group or R and B together form a -CO- or -CH 2 - linkage, R<SP>1</SP> being a C 1-4 acyl group and R<SP>11</SP> being a C 1-4 alkyl group, are obtained by reacting dialkoxypropylene derivatives of the formula (RO) 2 -CH-CH = CH-COOR<SP>11</SP> with cyano-acetic acid esters of the formula N#C-CH 2 -COOR<SP>11</SP> to give compounds of the above formula in which B is a -COOR<SP>11</SP> group, and if desired converting these to other compounds of the above formula. Compounds in which R and B together represent a -CO- group are obtained by saponification and hydrolysis or by simple hydrolysis; compounds in which B is a -CONH 2 are obtained by ammonolysis; compounds in which B is a -CH 2 OH group are obtained by selective reduction; and compounds in which B is a -CH 2 OR<SP>1</SP> or in which R and B together represent a -CH 2 - group are obtained by selective reduction followed by esterification or treatment with mineral acid respectively.
