Abstract

1435328 Rollers E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 25 June 1973 [26 June 1972] 30081/73 Heading D1D [Also in Division B1] A yarn handling roll or other surface, e.g. a pin or peg, used to contact a moving textile filamentary structure bearing a coating of finish containing oxidisable organic components at elevated temperature in the presence of oxygen has a yarn-contacting surface formed with a plurality of irregular rounded nodules having interstices therebetween which bear particles of an oxidation catalyst whereby accumulation of deposits of the organic material on the surface is prevented. The surface may have a roughness of 70-200 r.m.s. microinches and be formed by sand blasting or otherwise abrading the surface and then chromium-plating or coating with a refractory oxide, e.g. chromia or alumnia. The catalyst may be platinum, palladium, rhodium or ruthenium.
