Abstract

1434923 Window frames T F OAKES and M BRIDGEWATER 26 June 1973 [12 April 1972] 16781/72 Heading E1J [Also in Division F2] A frame comprises hollow frame members 40, 41 each formed from two sheet metal parts joined longitudinally, hollow coupling members 43 connecting ends of the frame members at the corners of the frame, and rigid foam filling material in the frame members and coupling members and penetrating into the longitudinal joints. The longitudinal joints are formed by bent over edge flanges on the parts which are interlocked directly (Fig. 1) or by a connecting strip (19, Fig. 2) of plastics or metal. After connection of the hollow members, foaming material is introduced into the hollows and where it penetrates the joints it becomes of higher density non-cellular structure. A tape (23 Fig. 2) along the joint prevents leakage of filling before solidification. The material also penetrates between the connecting and frame members and into the mitre join between the frame members. The filling material is preferably polyurethane, and the connecting member may be of plastics.
