Abstract
1434144 Connector AMP Inc 18 Jan 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 02379/74 Heading H2E To connect conductors of a coaxial cable to a printed circuit board, smaller cylindrical and larger frusto-conical crimpable ferrules 28, 30 are fitted in bores in a deformable transparent insulating housing 27. Tabs 74, 80 from the ferrules project initially axially, allowing insertion in the housing, whence they emerge through ciroumferentially aligned apertures 54, 66; the tabs are later bent radially, their spacing fixed by shoulders 92, 94 allowing engagement with spaced pairs of through holes in the printed circuit (10, Fig. 1, not shown). The smaller ferrule 28 is made of tin plated Cu, the larger 30 of tin plated brass. Ferrule 30 has chisel edges to ride past each other to improve grip on crimping; before crimping a gap between edges allows examination of the cable end. Internal serrations 80 also assist grip on the outer conductor. In an alternative embodiment (not illustrated) the intermediate bore 56 is eliminated, the larger ferrule 30 being moved forward to abut the shoulder at the rear of the smallest bore.
