Abstract

1433621 Moistening tobacco AMF INC 29 Jan 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 6357/73 Heading A2C A body 20 of tobacco leaves disposed in substantially horizontal layers and having at least one elongate cavity 22 formed therein is placed within an enclosed chamber 23 before evacuating the chamber e.g. through pipe 25, thereafter introducing steam into the chamber e.g. through pipe 28 and allowing steam to pass into the tobacco, the tobacco being unsupported at the elongate surface of the cavity, such that the tobacco receives a predetermined quantity of moisture. Fig. 2 shows a modification of the apparatus of Fig. 1 in which a perforated conveyor belt 36 running on pulleys 38, 39 convey tobacco bales to coring station, steaming and evacuating stations and finally delivers the tobacco having the requisite moisture content.
