Abstract

1433483 Fluidized beds; boilers PLESSEY CO Ltd 19 April 1973 [8 June 1972] 26710/72 Headings F4U and F4A [Also in Division B1] The resistance to gas flow into a fluidized bed in a central heating boiler differs at different portions of the bed whereby the degree of fluidization may be varied by varying the fluidizing gas pressure. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the bed support comprises a metal plate formed with holes which differ in concentration in different areas of the plate. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the bed support consists of a metal plate formed with equally spaced and sized apertures over each of which is disposed a conical baffle. The spacing of the baffles over the apertures differs at different areas of the plate. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3, a water jacket 54 is formed with inwardly projecting portions 62, 66 which overlap to provide an aperture 68 and which support the fluidized bed 70. The height of the aperture 68 increases from one side of the boiler 52 to the other side.
