Abstract

1433382 Two-part couplings H SIMON 4 April 1973 [4 April 1972] 16063/73 Heading H2E A spring contact formed from a blank of strip metal comprises a terminal portion 1, a mounting portion 7 and a contact portion of two arms 3 which, in the blank extend one to each side of and are inclined to the longitudinal axis of the blank, and which are folded in half across their lengths to form co-operating spring contact elements. Fig. 1 (a), (b) and (c) show three different blanks interconnected by intermediate pieces 11 which are cut when the blanks are to be folded to form respective contacts, Fig. 4 showing the contact formed from the blank of Fig. 1b. Crimping portions of the terminal portion/and an insulation-gripping portion 2 and the arms are bent to lie in a plane perpendicular to the mounting portion and the arms are folded half way along their lengths to form opposed portions for receiving a complementary contact blade, Fig. 6, tabs 5, 6 on the arms engaging recesses 15 on the blade. Holding tabs 10, 14 secure the contact in a housing (not shown). In other embodiments the terminal portion extends at right angles to the direction of the arms, and there is a bridging contact with two arms extending from each side of a central terminal portion (Figs. 42-44) suitable for connecting printed circuit boards; another embodiment shows bars (20) extending from the mounting portion having tabs (10) which bear against the spring arms to increase their resilience and also engage a hook (18) on the housing.
