Abstract
1433370 Passenger conveyers and handrails therefor REGIE AUTONOME DES TRANSPORTS PARISIENS 22 Nov 1973 [22 Nov 1972] 54286/73 Heading B8A A passenger conveyer comprises a surface formed of a series of units each of which comprises an endless chain 51 formed of links 52<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 8a) so constructed that the chain can bend around guide members 2 and 3 but can remain resistant to bending in the opposite sense so as to be able to support a downward load as shown. The chain passes also around a third guide member 4 (Fig. 1). The guide members 2, 3, are constrained along a path AA<SP>1</SP> corresponding to the direction of conveyance but the members 4 are constrained along a path BB<SP>1</SP>. As the latter approach the path AA<SP>1</SP> the distance between the members 2, 3, (of a given unit) increases (Fig. 8a) and the conveying surface accelerates. As the path AA<SP>1</SP>, BB<SP>1</SP>, separate (Fig. 8b) the conveying surface decelerates. The actual conveying surface is supported by two chains 51 disposed side-by-side (Fig. 6). They are bridged by members 53 which support longitudinally ribbed members 521<SP>1</SP>. Members 611 have a comb-like engagement with the members 521<SP>1</SP> and are in turn in combed engagement with tread members (72) (Fig. 6a, not shown). In a modification (Fig. 2) the invention is applied to a handrail, the speed of which varies in accordance with that of the conveyer.
