Abstract

1433036 Electro-plating zinc MINNESOTA MINING & Mfg CO 17 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 18535/73 Heading C7B An aqueous Zn electro-plating bath comprises 4-75 g/l of Zn ion and 4-90 g/l of NH4 ion, as chloride, sulphate, fluoborate and/or acetate, providing 15-200 g/l of anions in molar amount at least equal to the combined molar amount of Zn and NH 4 and at least 15 g/l of chloride and/or fluoborate anion; and 2-45 g/l of ethylene oxide/ propylene oxide block copolymer optionally mixed with an anionic N-(alkyl sulphonyl) glycine compound, as surfactants, further optionally mixed with other surfactants, e.g. a condensate of naphthalene and sulphonic acid or an imidazoline derivative. The bath may also contain aryl, tetrahydro ring halogenated, heterocyclic, carbocyclic, or aliphatic aldehydes or ketones as brighteners, e.g. o or p chlorobenzaldehyde, benzylidene acetone, coumarin, thiophene or cinnamic aldehyde, glutaraldehyde, beta-ionone or tetrahydrobenzaldehyde. The pH of the bath is adjusted to 3-6À3 by NH 4 OH or HCl.
