Abstract

1432995 Lamps PHYSICAL SYSTEMS Inc 2 May 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 20952/73 Heading F4R A lamp suitable for illuminating surgical operations comprises a high intensity substantially point-like light source such as a xenon short-arc lamp 50, a cylindrical Fresnel lens 60 surrounding the source and adapted to concentrate the light into a flat radially directed beam, a cup-shaped lenticulated member 44 surrounding the lens and adapted to focus the light into a series of radially directed rays, an outer transparent protective shell 70 to catch fragments of glass or other material in the event of breakage of any of the internal components, and a ring 34, Fig. 2, carrying a series of reflectors 36 which redirect the radially directed light rays downwardly in a generally conical configuration to form an illuminated circle of appropriate size at the desired distance from the lamp. The ring 34 is connected to the lamp housing 32 by radially extending arms (38). The lamp is supported from a ceiling connection (16) by pivoted arms (14, 26) interconnected by a ball joint (22, 24).
