Abstract

1432724 Forming tunnel linings in situ INST GOR DELA SIBIR OTDELENIA AKAD NAUK SSSR 29 Jan 1974 04019/74 Heading E1S A tunnel, e.g. for use as an underground pipeline, is lined with cement or like settable material 2 by delivering the material into the tunnel by a stream of a gaseous medium so as to fill the cross-section of the tunnel, and moving a rod-shaped body 9 axially through the tunnel to compact the material radially outwardly against the walls of the tunnel. The material may be delivered just ahead of and directed towards the body 9. The front end of the body 9 carries radial fins 11 to distribute the material, and a ring for initially aligning the body 9 may be fitted round the fins 11. The body 9 may contain a chamber with openings through the body walls for admitting a moist gaseous medium to the lining 8 being formed. The body 9 may contain a power cylinder whose piston has an inclined longitudinal slot receiving one end of a pin projecting radially through the body wall, whereby movement of the piston may extend and retract the pin to form perforations in the lining. The body 9 may be split longitudinally into sections which are mounted slidably on a longitudinal guide and co-operate with a conical surface thereof, whereby longitudinal relative movement produces also a radial expansion or contraction of the sections to vary the diameter of the body.
