Abstract

1432669 Suction lifting devices VACU-LIFT MASCHINENBAU GmbH 25 July 1973 35535/73 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2] A plurality of suction cups (1) for a vacuum lifting device are mounted on a transverse rail (36), Fig. 1 (not shown), and are in communication by means of hoses (not shown) with a vacuum cylinder (2) disposed above the rail (36) each suction cup comprising a plurality of side-by-side flat segments 3 each of which is pivotally attached to a tie rod 6 by means of a bolt 9, the tie rods 6 each having a hole 7 through which a central hub 8 passes, and sealing elements 4 are secured between and/or below the segments 3, the segments 3 and seal 4 being surrounded by a continuous sealing lip 35, the arrangement of the tie rods 6 being such that when the suction cup is placed upon a curved article to be lifted it conforms to the surface of that article as shown, and the tie rods are locked in that position by means of a hand-operated lever (13) which is pivoted to the end of the hub 8 through a bolt (12) and has flanges carrying rollers (14) which press against the outermost one of the tie rods, between which spacer discs (11) are disposed, Fig. 4 (not shown). Vacuum is generated within the cylinder (2) when the latter is raised by means of a hoist which is connected by means of chains (77) to the piston of the cylinder (2), Figs. 9a, 9b (not shown). In order that a tubular article may be properly lifted by means of the plurality of suction cups (1) the rail (36) has orientating devices (34) comprising adjustable arms (52) and rollers (51) mounted thereon, Fig. 8 (not shown).
