Abstract

1432519 Piezo-electric resonator INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 29 Aug 1974 [6 Sept 1973] 37770/74 Heading H1E The equivalent circuit of a piezo-electric (e.g. quartz) plate-like vibrator with face electrodes (Fig. 1, not shown), vibrating in a longitudinal mode, comprises elements as shown, with total loss resistance R1 made up of the equivalent crystal resistance Rq having a significant temperature coefficient and Re the inherent resistance of the electrodes which may have a low TC and a value high enough to swamp Rq, making the combined TC negligible, or a TC opposite in sign to that of Rq and a value chosen to zeroize the overall TC. With the usual positive TC of Rq, the electrodes may be made of, e.g. Ta nitride vapour deposited to have negative TC or a cermet such as CrSiO. The edges of the electrodes may be indented to allow later adjustment by modification of the indentations. Attenuation due to the total loss resistance is compensated by the amplifier following (not shown).
