Abstract

1432459 Ship propulsion FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 11 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972 8 March 1973] 42764/73 Heading B7V A water craft comprises a hull 20 so formed that, when the craft is floating in water 12, gas 10 from equipment 22 can be injected beneath the hull to form a layer of homogeneous gas flow parallel to the longitudinal axis of the hull between the hull and the water. An emulsifier under the rear part of the hull comprises a transverse baffle 16 which extends downwardly to a depth equal to the depth of the layer of gas flow. The baffle has slots 17 parallel to the longitudinal axis of the hull, each slot having a base 18, 19 which distorts the axial gas flow so that the emulsifier generates axial and transverse emulsion from the same axial gas flow. Steering can be effected by partial gas supply to secondary emulsifiers in association with, or without, partial supply to the main emulsifier.
